Football previews are regularly updated throughout the weeks leading up to the most important footballing events of the season. In weekly football previews you will get the inside story on when every key injured player is expected back. You will also see the latest league standings and stats to know each team’s current form. All this before you head out to the stadiums for some derbies.
One of the major injuries that has caused a lot of worries in the last week or two is long term injuries to key players. Many people have highlighted some of the injuries and problems which have occurred over the course of the season. For example, last week we saw stud running back Knownidge going out with an AC and MCL sprain. That is a big injury considering that Knownidge was one of our most exciting play makers last year. The Saints are without him now and they are without a lot of their depth too.
Another injury which occurred last week was to top WR Devery Henderson who is out for the season with a back injury. Deedly was on fire the past few weeks catching everything thrown to him but he just couldn’t stay healthy this year. As a result the Saints lost their top WR to an injured calf in the game against the Bears. The loss of Henderson leaves the Saints without one of the best wide receiver combination in the NFL with the previously injured Brian Bosworth and the oft-injuredaniel Brodows.
There were also injuries to key offensive players from last week’s game including ACL injuries to LG Donnell and RT Chance Warmack. Both players are out for the season and are listed as out for the rest of the year as well. That leaves a big hole to be filled at right tackle which has been a major issue all year long. This leaves rookies Anthony Steen and Michael Harron in at the very moment the starting right tackle job. Both players impressed the coaches in their practices last week but are still in doubt if they can hold up over the final six or seven games.
The offense has also been dealing with injuries recently including DEs Travvin Frey and rookie OT Joe Adams. Both are listed as out for the rest of this season and possibly the rest of the season as well. FB rookie Brian Maye is making his NFL debut last week and looked pretty good but he injured his foot early in the game. He is listed as questionable. DEs Charles Johnson and Will Smith are both questionable with knee injuries. It is also a good idea to bench any player who has been inactive the last two weeks to give the youngsters a chance to gel with the bigger players.
If the defensive players keep playing like they have the last two weeks, this defense will hold them in good stead this year. However, the rushing attack has been lacking the last two weeks. The combination of an improved O-line, more aggressive safeties and tackling will allow the Bulldogs to continue their strong start to the season.
